How to activate eSIM on your iPhone

Before installing your eSIM

Confirm a few basics before you begin.

Your device should:

  • Support eSIM

  • Be carrier-unlocked

  • Have a stable internet connection, preferably Wi-Fi

Compatibility depends on the device and operating system, such as iOS.

Prepare the installation

There are three ways you can install an eSIM on your iPhone:

  1. By scanning the QR code

  2. By clicking the direct link

  3. By manually entering the eSIM details

On iOS 17.4 and later, there is also a shortcut: you can press and hold a QR code inside your confirmation email and tap Add eSIM at the bottom to install it directly, without scanning it from another device.

Direct installation method

  1. If your confirmation email contains the direct link that says Click here to directly install the eSIM.

  2. Wait while the process completes. This may take a few minutes

  3. Tap Done when prompted

If your plan supports calls and texts, you can also assign the eSIM for voice and SMS.

A confirmation message appears once installation is complete.

Connect your eSIM to a network

Open Settings on your iPhone and configure the line.

  1. Go to Settings → Cellular and select your new eSIM

  2. Enable Turn On This Line

  3. Go to Cellular Data and select the new eSIM

  4. Disable Allow Cellular Data Switching

If your plan includes calls and texts:

  1. Go to Default Voice Line and select the eSIM

Then complete the network setup:

  1. Open Network Selection and turn Automatic off

  2. Select the network listed for your eSIM. It may take a moment to appear

  3. Open Cellular Data Network and enter the APN if required

  4. Enable Data Roaming if the plan requires it

  5. Turn Airplane Mode on, then off

The device will reconnect using the eSIM.
